Great weather and a built-in BBQ means we can bbq (actually grill) pretty much year round. Our recently restored and improved built in BBQ (thanks Hector), has grilled everything from grilled staples like burgers and hot dogs – to crawdads, whole fish and pizza.

Recently, I saw the Grill Gate a raised grill plate that you place over your existing bbq / grill. For me there were two draws to the Grill Gate – one to give a better grilling surface and two, to prevent flare ups. If you have grilled something like duck breast, or even a steak, you may have found yourself with a ball of flames where your meat is supposed to be. Now that doesn’t always ruin the meat as it is mostly burning off the fat, but it isn’t exactly safe and I am not a huge fan of the charred taste.

I also like that the raised grill of the Grill Grate sits on a perforated surface, so you won’t lose smaller items into the coals. Think asparagus, mushrooms, small shrimp, etc. The special grill fork, the Grate Fork, that comes with the Grill Gate also makes it easier to turn food.

In amongst the piles of catalogs I receive the one that I relish is Bounty Hunter. The safari styling of this shirt makes this black shirt casual and classic. As part of the Banana Republic limited edition “Heritage” line, this black shirt won’t be seen on everyone and that’s a good thing. A few comments on the Banana Republic site said that the fabric was not what they expected, jersey knit rather than cotton shirting. This might not work for the hottest days, but great for the office aircon and cooler days. Also, the advantage of this black shirt being made from jersey knit, is that it won’t wrinkle nearly as much as a cotton shirt.
